![]() This chat was from... somewhere in the middle of either October or November, I can't remember which :) The quesitions in bold are asked by me. I also asked a question something like "If you were a plant, what would you be?" and he said something like "Hemp; you can make rope out of it" but they(the people at AOL who tidy up the transcripts) took that one out... Anyway, here it is!:
Killing Heidi's JESSE HOOPER joined AOL Live to chat about Rumba! and the group's brand new single, `Heaven Sent'.
Rumba MC: Hi Jesse :) Thanks for chatting with us tonight.
KH Jesse: Hello everybody from the redheaded Killing Heidi guy - aka Jesse!
Rumba MC: First things first: we've had a lot of questions asking how Ella is and whether you guys will still be appearing at Rumba...
KH Jesse: Ella is definitely on the improve. She is currently filling her face with dinner in the next room. And we will be at Rumba doing a signing, but we will be unable to perform... I'm sorry!!!
Question: When is a new album coming out?
KH Jesse: We're almost finished recording, and at this stage it looks like it will be out in the first quarter of next year, but we'll probably have a second single out before the album comes out, so there'll be 2 singles from the album out.
Question: So Jesse, Who are some of the most favourite people you've played with on tour...or met just out in the public at award shows...etc....
KH Jesse: Probably early this year's Big Day Out concerts were great - we got to hang out with Placebo, Queens of the Stone Age, Rammstein, PJ Harvey and all of them were great to play alongside and to party alongside.
Question: Hey Jesse :) are there gonna be any instores in Sydney soon? Maybe to promote heavensent?
KH Jesse: I hope so. I'm not 100% sure, but I imagine we'll be doing a promo run probably just after Christmas. Does everyone like 'Heaven Sent'?
Question: What's your fav song ?
KH Jesse: 'Voodoo Child' by Jimi Hendrix.
Question: After you have released your new album, will you be touring Australia again?
KH Jesse: Yes, we can't wait to get back on the road and we will be doing a more comprehensive national and regional tour than we did with Reflector. So hopefully we'll be going to all the places we have been to, and lots we couldn't tour for the first album as well. So... more touring! Yes!
Question: Are you ever scared when u walk on stage seeing so many people?
KH Jesse: The last time I got nervous was probably the Big Day Out concert we did two years ago. But since then it's more an excitement thing than a nervousness or scary thing.
Question: Ah heavensent rocks! You guys have definitely matured musically -good work - can't wait for the single to be released ;) I've already taped it haha. What's your favourite drink? Alcoholic or non a.
KH Jesse: Non alcoholic- a mango fruit drink, I like mangoes... Alcoholic - `Jack lives here' :)
Question: My friend saw you guys perform in Portland Oregon earlier this year and absolutely loved you guys. She would like to know when the new CD is released. P.S. She is the one who got you guys to sign the Aussie t-shirt I sent her!
KH Jesse: Aha! I really don't know when US tour dates would be - all I know is that we'll probably push the album here first, and then go back over there to promote later next year. We're in no rush, especially with the terrorism attacks - we're much happier here!
Question: Do you guys like pizza?
KH Jesse: Of course! What type of question is that?!? Favourite topping is pepperoni.
Question: Do you have a dog?
KH Jesse: My new housemate has a dog, so I have a dog through default.
Question: Is Rumba the biggest concert you guys have ever played?
KH Jesse: No - probably the free concert before the opening ceremony of the Olympics in the Domain was the biggest concert we've ever played at.
Comment: I think that you guys are so cool and I just wanted to say that you rock.
KH Jesse: You rock too!
Question: Do you think this album will be as successful as Reflector?
KH Jesse: It's hard to say, but we're hoping that it will be well received by the people who have Reflector, and by people who perhaps didn't like Reflector.
Question: Are you playing at Big Day Out again?
KH Jesse: As of yet, we are not billed. We'd love to do it, but we haven't had new material out up until today, so maybe that's why we haven't been included.
Question: Who were ur idols when u were growing up???
KH Jesse: silverchair, because they were young Australian kids and really being successful within the music industry - I think that was inspiring not only for us but for lots of young Australian bands. And Shihad rock!
Comment: I heard heavensent today, it is great (congrats) tell Ella I said hi, and I LOVE u guys!
KH Jesse: Awwww OK :)
Question: Who's the funniest member of KH?
KH Jesse: I'd have to say Adam, our drummer. The stuff that comes out of his mouth is very unpredictable!
Question: Is the new album gonna have the same sounds as Heavensent? More Rocky? Any hints are good hehe. Happy 21st for the 11th Oct btw!
KH Jesse: Thank you :) Yes, generally the album is much more rock-based, but there is also still a pop element there, I guess, too.
Question: What is your favourite thing to do when you are not being 'Jesse from Killing Heidi'?
KH Jesse: Just sleeping, resting, playing Playstation - very normal, boring boy things, I guess.
Question: What's your favourite band?
KH Jesse: At the moment probably... it's a toss-up between Shihad and Incubus. It changes all the time though.
Question: Did you expect your debut album Reflector to be so huge?
KH Jesse: Not really. We hoped it would be successful, but we really had no idea it would b a number one album and go triple platinum. But we didn't say no to it!
Question: What advice do you have for people wanting to start a band like killing heidi?
KH Jesse: Follow your dreams. Don't take 'no' from anybody. And persist.
Question: How's it feel not having to work like a normal person to pay ya bills?
KH Jesse: LOL Pretty good! I can't believe I can get away with playing the guitar as a career. I'm quite the scammer :)
Question: Can u play any other instruments?
KH Jesse: I can play a little bit of violin - that was the first instrument I ever learned. But I can't play it very well.
Question: If you could record a duet, who would it be with and why?
KH Jesse: I think it would be with Janet Jackson, because she's cute LOL
Question: What will be on the Bside of Heaven Sent?
KH Jesse: Aha - good question! We have two remixes of 'Heaven Sent' which sound awesome, and we also have 3 acoustic songs which were recorded at my 21st birthday a month ago.
Question: If u could tour with one particular band and to one particular place, who would it be and where and why??
KH Jesse: I think it would have to be U2 and go to Ireland, because they're one of the coolest bands in the world, and I've never been to Ireland - so I'd get to kill two birds with one stone.
Question: What profession do you think you and the other members of Killing Heidi would be in if you were not rock stars?
KH Jesse: Adam was a carnie - a carnival-folk person. Warren also was a carnie. And Ella would probably still be trying to finish high school! And I would be president of this country :)
Question: Hey how are you? I know you r talking to heaps of ppls but yeah.... where in Aus are u at the moment?
KH Jesse: I am at my grandparents' house with Ella, having dinner.
Question: How did u come up with the name 'killing heidi'??
KH Jesse: We had lots of ideas, but Killing Heidi was the only band name we could remember that we came up with - so we thought it we can remember it, hopefully other people can as well. It just stuck in our heads, basically.
Question: What's your favourite movie?
KH Jesse: Meet the Feebles.
Question: R u looking forward to Rumba?
KH Jesse: Of course we are! I'm just a little bit disappointed we're not going to be able to perform but we will be there to sign some stuff for you guys nonetheless.
Question: If you could describe Killing Heidi in one word, what would it be?
KH Jesse: Boomshanka!
Question: If you could have any 5 people in the world for a dinner party or drinking session, who would they be?
KH Jesse: Hmmm... Just trying to think... The original Spice Girls. But they can only come over if they're nude lol.
Question: Jesse what's it like being famous
KH Jesse: Pretty fun, mostly. Occasionally you desire a little bit of privacy, but for the most part it's a blast.
Question: When and where was your first gig?
KH Jesse: The first Killing Heidi set was at the Violet Town March Arts Festival in which me and Ella and another friend of mine, Rowan, played half an hour of covers and the only two original songs we had at the time. That was in 1996.
Question: What's your most embarrassing memory?
KH Jesse: Realising that my sister's a good singer and I wanted her in my band.
Question: Did you ever have a comic book hero?
KH Jesse: I still do - and his name is The Darkness.
Question: If you had to be an item of clothing for the rest of your life, what would you be?
KH Jesse: A tiara.
Rumba MC: Thanks so much for joining us at AOL Live Jesse.
KH Jesse: Goodnight everybody! I'll see you at Rumba - come and get something signed!!!
Rumba MC: Say hi to Ella, Adam and Warren for us!
